Kenya Lacole McBee, daughter of Yvonne McBee, was born and raised in Greenville, S.C. She attended high school at Wade Hampton High, where she lettered in basketball, volleyball and track. Her senior year she was named South Carolina female athlete of the year in basketball and track and named Miss Basketball in 2001. Kenya went on to receive a full athletic scholarship to The University of North Carolina.

Her best game performance was her freshman year where she registered a double double of 17 pts and 13 rebs, on her first career start at Clemson. Kenya double majored in Communications and African American studies.

After graduation she went on to play professional basketball overseas in France, Sweden, Portugal, Poland, Finland, Bulgaria and most recently Turkey. Kenya also took a break in between playing for her first coaching job at Queens University in Charlotte in 2007, and in 2009 was the video coordinator at UNC for the women's basketball team.
